The city Dnepropetrovsk is stretched on the both sides of the river Dnepr, in the heart of Ukraine, in a steppe zone. The history of Dnepropetrovsk begins in 1776 when it has been fouded by the decree of Catherine II. In her honor the city has received the name of Ekaterinoslav. The place where Dnepropetrovsk settles down now, from an antiquik time was favorable for dwelling. All the roads to any citis of Ukraine will go through Dnepropetrovsk – the largest railway and transport jenction of the country.

The modern name of a city consists of the name of the river. Dnepropetrovsk is the fourth largest city with population in Ukraine after Kiev, Kharkov and Odessa. Dnepropetrovsk is one of the largest industrial, economic and transport centers in Ukraine, the center of metallurgy and space capital of Ukraine. Especially the ferrous metallurgy is well developed (metal plants by the name of Petrovsky, and by the name of Babushkina, the Dnepropetrovsk trumpet factory, Kominmet, Nizhnedneprovsky trumpet factory), metal working industry and mechanical engineering. Dnepropetrovsk is the center of rocket production of Ukraine. Intracity transport of a city is presented by the trolleybus and tram lines, and also the developed system of fixed-route taxis.

. The Dnepropetrovsk underground has been working since the 29th of December 1995. Dnepropetrovsk is well-known for its bridges: the Amur bridge, Centrathel (New), the Bridge № 2, the Merefo-Kherson railway bridge that is the very first bridge constructed in the form of an arch. The Kajdaksky bridge, the Southern (Gorbatyi) bridge, the Ust-Samara bridge is for the automobiles. The Samara (Igrensky) bridge was built in 1981. There are 14 State higher educational institutions. The Dnepropetrovsk drama theater by the mane of Shevchenko, the Dnepropetrovsk academic theater of Russian drama by the name of M.Gorkogo, the Dnepropetrovsk State Academic Opera and Ballet theater, the Dnepropetrovsk municipal youth theater «Verim» , the Dnepropetrovsk regional youth theater «Chamber scene», the Dnepropetrovsk municipal theater of the actor and a doll and the Dnepropetrovsk state circus.
